Hi everyone! Today's topic is "Should Human Children Be On a Leash", and it came to mind because I was on Broadway earlier today people watching with my dad. He was taking a break from studying, and although I wanted to play fetch, he thought a nice walk would do.
But, lest I digress, let me tell you more about what I saw today (I'll spare you the details of the smells - we walked by a sewer!). I was watching these tourists come by with a whole litter of children, and one of them dropped a small ball that rolled out into the street. The parent saw this, and yelled at the kid to not run out in the street, but as you can imagine it did no good. Now, I should also note at this point that they had a dog with them too, and the dog saw the ball roll out also, but it didn't go anywhere because it was on a leash and clearly a well-behaved canine.
Unfortunately, the child was not so very well behaved, and almost got hit by a bus, a car, a bike rider, and a pigeon (the pigeon was just flying by unaware). As I sat there and thought about it, I realized that if the human child had been on a leash, none of this would have happened. I mean, isn't the whole point of leash laws to prevent dogs from running amok without paying attention to their surroundings? If we think dogs need a leash, then maybe human children do as well in order to keep them safe and to prevent them from causing any accidents.
Now, I know this line of thought will have its critics, and that some people might even say that you have to worry about dogs biting people, and that is why they are leashed. In response, I say that if you have spent any significant amount of time around human children, then you know they are quite likely to bite as well. At least a dog will normally give you a warning growl or have some kind of reason - human children just like to bite!
I'll leave you with that thought and let you come up with your own decision regarding whether we should have human children leash laws. As for me, I have a new tennis ball that needs chewing. Have a great day!
